Okay, in my last post I told you about my new house! In this one I’m going to make a list of things that need to be done with the goal of a month.

  1. Wash the windows (inside only, wait til next spring for the outside)
  2. Wash walls
  3. Clean carpeting
  4. Repaint
  5. Clean area where fridge will go
  6. Wipe down cupboards
  7. Scrub kitchen floor
  8. Clean both bathrooms
  9. Fix leaky faucet
  10. Get air ducts cleaned out

Okay, there you have it my to do list! Am I missing anything? What do you think? Are there additional tasks I should do right away?

I think you will end up patching some wall space. Allow for spackling and dry time. Will you need to prime.

What about wood work? Is it white, or do you need to remove baseboards and trim. (looked white in pictures) If – when you reattach it you will need wood filler to fix the nail holes.
How is the drywall? Nails or screws popping out. They will need to be hammered in and then patched. Light sanding.
    What condition is the floor?
I’m sure you plan to paint first and clean carpets later.
I hope you have lots of help. Will love to see the after pictures.
    Good Luck. LE

Thanks for posting a comment! I’m so excited I get to try this part of the posting out! We have nicotine stains on the ceiling. So, we need to seal them with an oil-based paint so they don’t bleed through after we paint. Speaking of spackling, we have popcorn ceiling in every room! Aaaarrrrgggg! I guess it was very popular in the 70’s when the house was built. We have alot of spackling to take care of in regards to the ceiling.
The wood work is white and is in good condition. I prefer natural, but since they painted everything white in the house (previously a rental), I guess I will have to wait. Thank you for the tips about the wood filler. I had no idea!
Some of the drywall is fine and other parts aren’t. There are nails popping out in the stairwell. I would really like to get them pounded back in and patched up!
The carpeting in the living room and dining room is “well worn” but still has life in it. For right, now we did clean the carpets with a Bissel Pro Clean. It was alot of work, but it is a good “bandage” until we can do laminate in those two rooms. I do want to keep the carpeting in the family room, which is the first room to be paints, but one of the last to be cleaned with my special “solution.”
This weekend I plan on spending some time there and washing the kitchen and get that ready to be moved into. So much to do and so little time!
